Cooper Tacia General Contracting Company is a fast-growing commercial construction firm based in Raleigh, NC.
We are seeking a Chief Estimator to lead and mentor our estimating team.
The Chief Estimator will report directly to our President and Operations Manager.
This is not a remote position.
The successful candidate will be in-person at our Atlanta office.
As a Chief Estimator at Cooper Tacia your duties will include:
Responsibilities:
Managing, mentoring, coaching, and training estimators and pre-construction engineers.
Works on multiple estimating projects in a project leader capacity as needed or project advisor within functional teams.
Quality controls all estimating deliverables prepared by support staff if required.
Lead and coordinate bid preparation requirements with the estimating team.
Creating a bid win strategy that aligns with profitability and Owner MWBE requirements.
Reviewing proposal specifications, drawings, attending pre-bid meetings, and conducting site visits to establish the scope of work.
Soliciting pricing from subcontractors and suppliers, ensuring trade participation prior to bid.
Thoroughly documenting subcontractor outreach, MWBE requirements, and scope verification as per owner or general conditions.
Evaluating project specifications, requirements, and timelines in collaboration with architects, engineers, and the pre-construction team.
Negotiate prices with vendors/subcontractors through quotations for materials/services.
Assembling detailed estimates through takeoffs and specifications reviews to create precise proposals.
Estimate indirect cost including management, construction equipment and tools, support facilities.
Compiling bid proposal packages, including bid bonds, proposals, MWBE forms, and other required forms.
Prepare budgets, subcontracts, purchase orders and assist in preliminary project schedules.
Lead design-build pursuits and Target Value Delivery opportunities Engage in proposal presentations.
Leading post-bid reviews for continuous process enhancement.
Providing project and field management with comprehensive bid documentation and subcontractor negotiation recap for successful bids.
Adhering to uncompromising ethical standards both personally and professionally.
Determining cost of work pricing, site logistics, and schedule verification with the project team.
Develops duration estimates of specific construction activities based on assumed construction approach and appropriate production rates.
Sets up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
Creates cost models for cost estimating elements.
Prepares cost reports and presents findings to design and client teams.
Participates in client presentations as required.
Collaborates with scheduling team to develop production-based bottom-up cost estimates and to ensure alignment of estimates to construction schedules.
Develops and maintains Enterprise level estimating policy, processes, procedures, guidelines, and desk manuals for use from project to project.
Ensures consistency of estimating methods and data use on programs across all projects.
Provides guidance and oversight of the use of estimating software, including related protocols and standards.
Oversees a database or warehouse of estimation data recorded and tracked from each job.
Accumulates, evaluates, and documents historical cost data and construction means and methods in order to maintain current estimating standards and databases.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management or equivalent.

years of relevant commercial construction estimating experience Problem-solving with a positive outlook, focusing on solutions.
Proficiency in Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Possession of a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
Ability to read and comprehend bid documents and drawings.
Strong attention to detail.
Skilled in planning, collaboration, and conflict-resolution.
Experience with estimating software such as Heavy Bid, Sage, OST, Procore Takeoff software (Blue Beam, etc.
