Responsibilities Primary Responsibility:
Provisions, configures, operates and maintains physical/virtual servers and supporting services in alignment with business processing requirements. This position utilizes in-depth knowledge of virtualization using unified compute, storage and network resources. This includes creating templates and balancing resources for optimal performance, availability and risk avoidance. Additional areas of responsibility include administrative support for mass storage systems and cloud based solutions. Responsible for ongoing lifecycle maintenance tasks such as monitoring, tuning, patching and securing of relevant IT resources. This work is scheduled in accordance with established policies and procedures based on ITIL framework. Additionally, this position assists in developing standard operating procedures to ensure a consistent and optimum level of performance for both operational and regulatory concerns. This position regularly takes a new perspective to solve complex problems, works independently and receives minimal guidance.
Essential Functions:
o Must have the basic ability to build out server environments, physical and virtual from the ground up. o Advanced server administration supporting enterprise software applications. Introduce automation and develop standards for efficient, repeatable results. o Advanced understanding of TCP/IP and network connectivity concepts. o Advanced knowledge and experience of various services i.e DNS, DHCP, NTP, Kerberos, SSHD, PXE, SFTP, HTTPD, LDAP, among others. o Advanced knowledge of various enterprise server hardware blades, rackmount, standalone , and storage technologies. o Advanced knowledge and understanding of Clustering, Virtualization, NAS, NFS and SAN. o Evaluate current or emerging technologies to consider factors such as portability, compatibility, or usability. o Available for on-call, rotated weekly within the team, and become a point person for any production issues. o Ensure standard processes exist for systems installation, configuration, patching, and upgrading. o Develop guidelines for systems monitoring to ensure maximum availability, uptime, and performance. Participate in proactive capacity planning to support changing business requirements. o Research, troubleshoot, and resolve system performance issues and outages. Participate in cross-functional technical teams in the identification and resolution of complex technical issues. o Develop server and storage strategies, including direction on new technologies, platform virtualization and consolidation, and protocol standards (iSCSI, FCoE, FC, NFS, etc.). o Advanced script development and the adoption of tools to automate repeatable systems management activities. o Participate in the design, delivery and regular testing of high availability and disaster tolerant solutions. Deliver proven statements of capability to the organization. o Collaborate as a member of design teams consisting of cross-functional technical resources in the provisioning of complex business solutions. o Ensure documentation standards are created and adhered to. o Troubleshoot and resolve complex problems to ensure minimal disruption of mission-critical applications. o Design, configure and manage system backups, performing regular testing to validate backup strategies. o Develop Disaster Recovery scripts and procedures and lead the testing and recovery process. o Maintains current knowledge of relevant hardware and software applications as assigned. Provide management with input on evolving technology trends and solutions. o Perform other duties and assist other staff as necessary or as directed by management. Operate under irregular work schedules as needed and provide off-hours operational support. o Performs complex operating system provisioning and administration including system patch management. Works with application users and data owners to maintain named user access controls within current security roles and coordinate systems life cycle events. o Plans, documents and communicates operating systems, physical host and ancillary resource configuration standards. o Takes leadership role in managing major incidents and problems through root cause analysis and effective communication among teams. o Monitors relevant systems for availability and performance. Performs periodic metrics reporting to show continuous performance. o Follows established IT processes for change, configuration and problem management as well as regulatory requirements such as NERC/CIP (North American Electric Reliability Corporation critical infrastructure protection. o Acts as subject matter expert on assigned projects. Takes responsibility for completion of assigned project tasks. o Actively participates in professional development activities o Conducts routine hardware and software audits of servers to ensure compliance with established standards o Designs, recommends and develops a comprehensive system of inventory and monitoring for supported hardware and software. o Ensures data/media recoverability by implementing a program of system backups appropriate to the operating system and resident application(s). Qualifications Qualifications &
Experience:
o 5- 10 years of relative technical experience, BS in Computer Science:
or equivalent combination of education and experience. o 5 - 10 years of relative technical experience in one of the following operating systems:
AS/400, HPUX, Linux, or Windows. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
o General knowledge of networking protocols and terminology. o General knowledge of workflow, middleware and web server technology. o Ability to work in a team-oriented environment. o Strong customer service skills. o Self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail. Physical Requirements & Abilities:

$80K -- $100K
