General Description and Classification Standards Performs professional public information, related research work and event coordination.
Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to preparing news releases and advisories, public service announcements, statements, brochures, newsletters, and reports of both technical and general content; researching and preparing remarks; developing and implementing traditional and social media strategies; organizing and coordinating departmental related projects, special events, ceremonies programs and public relations endeavors; and processing associated paperwork.
Supervision Received Works under general supervision.
Depending on organization structure, may work independently with responsibility for an assigned function or program.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.
May perform other duties as assigned.
Research articles, reports, policies, and other documents in preparation of articles and speeches including accurate data and information.
Drafts news articles for publication, press releases, public service announcements, media advisories and speeches to inform the public and for distribution to the news media.
Develops story ideas and promotional concepts for department activities and organizes internal projects and activities.
Will serve as the point of contact for departmental ceremonies and special events to include planning, coordination, and publicity events.
Responds to questions, complaints, and requests for information by telephone, in person, by social media or by mail from the news media, public, elected and City of Atlanta officials or City officials, outside agencies, employees, superiors, etc.
Monitors and peruses newspapers.
Broadcasts and other publications for articles and broadcast stories related to the department and clips and develops daily reports for distribution and maintains files.
Assists in maintaining department presence on social media platforms and providing guidance for Social Media Production and Special Events Coordinator.
Decision Making Uses independent judgment and discretion in the handling of special events, determining and deciding upon procedures to be implemented, setting priorities, maintaining standards, and resolving problems.
Leadership Provided May oversee temporary or contract workers and interns as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities This is a partial listing of necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job successfully.

Knowledge of journalism and news media practices, policies and procedures and the principles, practices, and procedures of the Department of Watershed.
Ability to research design and assemble layouts for presentations, programs, and publications and to prepare written reports in a concise, clear, and effective manner.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and execute special events.
Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, business or public administration, communications, or related field and 1-3 years of experience in public relations or related area required; equivalent professional experience.
Preferred Education & Experience Bachelor's degree in journalism, English, business or public administration, communications or related field and 3-5 years of experience in public relations or related area preferred.
Licensures and Certifications None required.
Essential Capabilities and Work Environment Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
