We are seeking an Accountant to join our Accounting Services team in Atlanta, GA. This role will drive value for Georgia-Pacific by providing accounting, reporting, internal financial controls implementation and monitoring, and some financial analysis for Building Products domestic and international locations. Approximately half of this role will support the Chemical business, focusing on multiple inventory locations including associated month-end closing, analysis, and reconciliations. Additional responsibilities of this role include supporting all BP (Building Products) businesses through reporting (both internal and external) and process improvements.
Georgia-Pacific's building products business is North America's No. 1 producer of wood panels namely plywood and oriented strand board and is a leading producer of gypsum products and lumber. Georgia-Pacific is also a major supplier to large do-it-yourself warehouse retailers. Georgia-Pacific Chemicals LLC is a global performance chemicals manufacturer and marketer. Our products are used in a diverse range of industries including building products, oil & gas, mining, paper, and packaging.
A Day In The Life Typically Includes:
The Accountant position will perform accounting duties so that the incumbent may gain experience, which will allow for advancement to positions of greater responsibility and technical ability throughout the company.
The ideal candidate will have the following demonstrated skills: an understanding of economic-thinking principles, internal financial controls, financial and cost accounting, ability to interact with all levels of management, solid team-player, ability to use finance tools such as Excel and Access and have proactive/self-driven work habits in prior roles. Overtime and minimal travel may be involved.
Experience within the manufacturing sector and solid understanding of inventory management is preferred. Key qualities for success will include an inherent high level of integrity, and the effectiveness to communicate to internal customers within the framework of our operating culture.
Fiduciary Duties
Manage accounting and month-end closing for Chemical inventory for multiple locations, including tolling locations and off-site terminals
Balance Sheet and Income Statement review and ownership
Research and code invoices
Work with external customers and vendors to maintain accurate inventory balances
Internal financial control environment oversight
Understanding and involvement in month-end close process
Internal management reporting and some external reporting
Governmental reporting
Annual BP Tax workpaper preparation
Business Support & Analysis
Provide support for key internal customers, including: sales, logistics, and accounting
Ad hoc analysis
Create value through process improvements
Acquisition/divestiture business support
The position will be located in Atlanta.
What You Will Need:
Education Required:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or Business
GPA of 3.0 or above in Accounting Coursework
Basic
Qualifications:
At least ONE year of accounting or financial analysis experience
General understanding of GAAP and overall accounting functions (GL, AR, AP, Inventory, etc.)
Basic understanding of intercompany transactions, and month end closing
Conceptual understanding of the design and purpose of internal controls
Aptitude and desire for learning new systems and improving processes through innovation and automation
Prior experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel spreadsheet creation/editing, pivot tables, data manipulation/analysis and formula creation etc., Access-query, and PowerPoint presentation creation/editing)
Preferred
Qualifications:
Accounting and/or Inventory Management experience in a Large Corporate Accounting, Manufacturing, or Public Accounting environment
Experience in Excel macros and SQL/VBA
Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Highly motivated, proactive, willingness to engage and partner
Financial acumen to be utilized toward financial statement analysis
Able to prioritize his/her own workload to ensure optimal outcome
Strong customer focus with analytical, financial and economic thinking skills
Detail oriented with a strong focus on accuracy and attention to detail

Ability to work in a team environment
Basic self-awareness and an understanding of how personal behavior impacts others
