The position of Interdisciplinary Scientist (Technology Based Expert) falls within the 0403/1320 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-13, you must meet Time-in-Grade requirements by 11:

Applicants must possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is directly related to the position being filled that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, which includes the mastery of the principles, theories, and practices of a specialized instrument that enables the incumbent to serve as an expert in analytical instrumentation, and professional knowledge of one or more scientific fields operative within a laboratory. Examples of specialized instrumentation include Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Mass Spectrometry (MS) or Electron Microscopy (EM). TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT:

Applicants must have 52 weeks at the GS-12 grade level or higher in the Federal Service. In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
