The incumbent oversees front office and timeliness of scheduling operations in all functional areas of Hematology/Oncology Services to assure proper patient flow, satisfaction and adherence to established VA regulations for specialty care by assignment and collaboration with section chief and central scheduling service line. - Responsible for developing and producing a variety of daily, weekly, monthly, or annual analytical reports associated with the Hematology/Oncology Service programs and the Hospital wide Cancer Program. -Responsible for managing pharmacogenomics for veterans program and collaborate with national pharmacogenomics program. Oversee the schedule of inpatient call schedule and clinic coverage among providers. -full responsibility in oversee coordination of the outsourced Hematology/Oncology consults for fee and choice when service timeliness does not allow or if services not available. - Participates and represents the Hematology/Oncology Services at upper level management meetings, committee assignments, and task forces to evaluate and recommend Improvements to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical and/or administrative programs and activities. - Performs work in establishing the policies and procedures by which the research program will be judged. Establishes program goals and objectives and identifies results indicative of successful program accomplishments. - Assists specialists with establishing acceptable research policies and procedures for evaluation groups to conduct their reviews and to frame their recommendations for project effectiveness and medical research funds. - Coordinates, maintain national compliance standards both for National Cancer Institute, American College of Surgeons Cancer Program Accreditation, Veterans' Affairs Office of Research Over site and National VA Clinical trials policies. - Participates in all aspects of research including education of staff, analysis of trials, summary of results for IRB and CTRC purposes, description of procedures development of proposed clinical trials and the preparation for the electronic submission of clinical trials. - Maintains protocols and databases containing all clinical data involving Hematology and Oncology patients enrolled in research clinical trials at this facility. - Reviews regular project status reports and statistical data to verify compliance with research reporting and administrative criteria. Prepares consolidated reports for management functions and higher echelon review. - Evaluates, on a quantitative or qualitative basis, the effectiveness of Health Administrative programs, such as scheduling, eligibility, clinic profile management and clinic front office operations in meeting established goals and objectives. -Evaluates cancer program standards for accreditation and works with other service lines to meet the cancer program accreditation requirements to include compliance with standards and clinical trials enrollment requirements for accreditation and collaboration at the level of service line chiefs for specialties outside of hematology oncology. -Performs other related duties. Possess successfully completed a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in an academic field related to the health sciences (or allied sciences) appropriate to the work of this position as a Research Health Science Specialist? Experience of major oncologic disease categories and each specific protocol study and familiar with the design of each protocol, names and sources of chemotherapeutic agents, radiation therapy terms, immunologic agents and vaccines, dilutions, doses, and frequency of administration of agents used in each protocol, and mathematical computations necessary to arrive at doses for each patient on protocol. In addition to meeting the Basic Education requirement and Selective Placement Factor above the following to qualify for position. MINIMUM
Qualifications:
Possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Qualifying specialized experience includes:
Knowledge to develop policies, procedures, and criteria for the administration of the health science research program, and to implement data collection and monitoring of the registries and protocols for difficult clinical studies; practical professional knowledge of major oncologic disease categories and each specific protocol study; knowledge of National Cancer Institute, American College of Surgeons Cancer Program Accreditation, Veterans' Affairs Office of Research Over site and National VA Clinical trials policies related institutions; knowledge of software programs designed for database management, spreadsheet analysis, word processing, statistical analysis; preparing project and statistical reports for review; preparing information for research project evaluation functions. (The above experience must show in your Resume) OR EDUCATION SUBSTITUTION:
Possess a Master's or equivalent graduate degree that provided you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) necessary to do the work of this position as a Research Health Science Specialist. One year of full-time graduate education is the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent one 1 year of full-time study. If that number cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered an academic year of graduate study. Experience:
possess equivalent combinations of creditable specialized experience and education as described above to meet the total experience requirements for the position. Experience:
Current clinical research certification. Extensive experience in working with databases and extensive knowledge of cancer program terminology and database as well as some experience with pharmacogenomics terminology.
