JOB SUMMARY

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta (Children's) has an opening for a Transfusion Medicine and Apheresis Section Lead. This position will report to the Chief of Pathology and serve as a critical member of laboratory leadership in this large pediatric healthcare system.


The Transfusion Medicine and Apheresis Section Lead will join a group of eighteen faculty members based at Children's, nine of whom are existing Clinical Pathologists or PhD laboratory scientists. The department is known for outstanding pediatric clinical and anatomic pathology services, including a national presence in pediatric pathology and laboratory medicine. Successful candidates should demonstrate leadership skills and experience in transfusion medicine, technical excellence, and good interpersonal skills, allowing for productive interactions with other transfusion medicine specialists, members of the department, technical staff, and caregivers. The ability to work both within and outside the department to lead or support research in transfusion medicine is also important.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Ensures regulatory compliance of section under direction.


2. Ensures operations run efficiently day to day. Provides leadership for physicians and technical staff. Resolves issues. Ensures service is covered.


3. Performs service work to provide diagnostic testing for physicians.


4. Serves as an expert resource for clinical or diagnostic issues. Provides education for the laboratory technical staff and learners.


5. Represents the laboratory in system-wide meetings.


6. Meets with lab leadership to identify areas for improvement. Leads change.


7. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.


KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills and aptitude for conflict resolution, problem-solving, staff development, and time management
  • Meets eligibility requirements for credentialing as part of the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta Professional Staff
  • Demonstrates the following skills in accomplishing job duties and

EXPERIENCE
  • At least four years of experience in Transfusion Medicine

EDUCATION
  • Doctor of allopathic or osteopathic medicine or equivalent
  • Successful completion of post-graduate residency training program or fellowship in pathology or a related field

CERTIFICATION SUMMARY
  • Licensed or eligible to practice medicine in the state of Georgia
  • Board certification in Transfusion Medicine

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least two years of experience in a leadership role

SYSTEM RESPONSIBILITIES

Safety: Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Responsible for the reporting of employee/patient/visitor injuries or accidents, or other safety issues to the supervisor and in the occurrence notification system.



Compliance: Monitors and ensures compliance with all regulatory requirements, organizational standards, and policies and procedures related to area of responsibility. Identifies potential risk areas within area of responsibility and supports problem resolution process. Maintains records of compliance activities and reports compliance activities to the Compliance Office.
