This rare 1880s antique electrostatic volt meter was patented by Sir William Thomson (Lord Kelvin of Largs), one of the most distinguished scientists of the late 19th century. This volt meter was designed by Sir William Thomson and made by his business partner James White of Glasgow, Scotland.

This voltmeter is number 79. The plate on the right reads J.W. Queen and Co., Sole Agents, Philadelphia, USA.
