Vehicle Description Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1970 Plymouth Road Runner two-door hardtop, a numbers-matching California car with single-family ownership to new and 69,000 original miles.
The original owner, a Los Angeles bus driver who was a life-long Mopar enthusiast, purchased this Road Runner in March 1971 from Barish Chrysler Plymouth in LA - it was a dealer car with 3,900 miles (likely driven by a sales manager).
It remained in California until 2017 when the original owner moved to Georgia with his family; after his passing in 2018 his granddaughter inherited the car.
Finished in B5 Blue with a white vinyl top, the car was repainted about 15 years ago in the correct color and we believe all body panels to be original.
Panels are straight and body and door gaps are excellent.
Nice original underside with no known rust - you can tell this car spent the majority of its life in Southern California.
There is a minor scuff on the right rear wheel arch and one small area of lifting paint behind the rear window, but no rust and no other significant flaws to note.
Good original bumpers, trim, grille, lenses and glass.
Aluminum 15-inch slot mags with staggered BF Goodrich tires (205/60 fronts and meaty 265/50 rears) are a great look on this car.
Interior was originally white vinyl; door panels are original but seats have been recovered in blue fabric per the owner's preference.
Factory gauges are all working but supplemental temp and oil pressure gauges (plus a tachometer) have been added for greater precision.
RetroSound stereo.
This was a factory A/C car and most of the A/C components are intact except for the condenser.
Under the hood is the original, numbers-matching 383 cubic inch V8.
Grandpa had an appetite for speed because this 383 has seen a number of desirable upgrades that enhance performance without sacrificing driveability.
This 383 is fed by a Holley 750 tunnel ram carb atop an Edelbrock aluminum intake; with MSD igntion, a cam with a gear-driven timing set and stainless headers, it has a nice lope at idle and has no trouble lighting up the tires (both of them - it has a limited slip, of course).
Owner's manual, warranty book, and the 1971 dealer certification that our client's grandfather was the first registered owner of this car are included with the sale.
This one certainly checks all of the right boxes for the Mopar muscle enthusiast - a California car in a great color with known history to new.
