Vehicle Description Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark II BT7.
Finished in black over red, this Healey was originally sold in Atlanta and has remained with the same family since new.
Remarkably original and unmolested, we believe both the paint and the mileage to be original.
The glass and brightwork on this Healey remain in excellent condition - bumpers, grille, trim and chrome remain nice and bright with very little pitting or hazing.
The original lacquer paint retains a nice shine but exhibits some crazing, especially over the bonnet.
Solid and original underside.
This car has never been wrecked, rusty or taken apart for restoration - door fitment and bonnet gaps are excellent.
Indeed, we would consider it a time-capsule survivor.
The interior is mostly original with the exception of new carpets.
Original dash, door cards, seat upholstery and steering wheel.
Original tonneau cover still fits into place.
The original convertible top, frame and side curtains are also present but the top has shrunk slightly with age and is showing some wear.
All gauges, lights, switches, etc.
are working as they should.
Under the hood is the original numbers-matching inline six fed by triple carbs and mated to a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive.
This Healey was sold new at Hix Green Buick on North Avenue right here in Atlanta to the present owner's uncle in 1962 (in addition to Buick, Hix Green also sold Rolls Royce, Mercedes-Benz, Austin Healey, Jaguar, Saab, Alfa-Romeo and Jeep).
It was never his daily driver and after a few years he lost interest in the car as he acquired a taste for muscle cars and hot rods, and this Healey languished in his basement garage for decades.
After his death the car passed to the present owner's uncle, and then to the present owner himself.
Our client undertook a comprehensive mechanical recommissioning in 2020 by a well-respected English car specialist at a cost exceeding $13,000.
The work included a complete brake system overhaul, new fuel tank, new wire wheels and Vredestein sprint classic tires, carb rebuild, tune up, new belts and hoses, new wipers and washer mechanism, new suspension dampers and bushings, a heat shield over the exhaust and supplemental insulation in the floors beneath the carpet (plus tune up and all fluids).
This BT7 runs and drives very nicely - the clutch and gearbox feel good with no crunchy synchros, the overdrive operates properly and the chassis feels tight and put together thanks to the recent suspension overhaul (the low original mileage and the fact this car has never been fully taken apart and reassembled for restoration certain help).
It's rare we see any single-owner car in such an original state of preservation - and mechanically well sorted, to boot.
Available for purchase for the first time since 1962.
Original purchase invoice, heritage trust certificate and service records are included with the sale.
