ZFFYU51A8Y0121903 For years, Enzo Ferrari was resolute that road cars bearing his name would be powered by twelve cylinders so as not to diminish the brand with lesser models.
However, the immense success of the V6-powered, Dino-badged 206 and 246 GT demonstrated public demand for lightweight mid-engined models from Maranello, bolstered by sales in the tens of thousands of the Ferrari 308 and 328.
The platform continued to mature in the 1990s, introducing semi-monocoque construction in the 348 and an F1-derived paddle-shift transmission in the F355.
As Ferrari entered a new millennium, a clean-sheet design was deemed necessary to establish a basis for a future generation of Ferrari road cars.
The outcome was the all-aluminum Ferrari 360 Modena developed in conjunction with Alcoa, dressed in aerodynamic Pininfarina-styled bodywork and bristling with technological advancements.
Debuting at the 1999 Geneva Motor Show, the 360 was 220 pounds lighter and 40 percent stronger in structural rigidity than the F355 it replaced.
Visible under the glass rear decklid was a heavily revised 3.
6-liter Tipo F131 V8 producing 400-horsepower, now paired with a more sophisticated version of the F1 paddle-shift transmission with improved rev-matching capabilities.
The 360 set the precedent for Ferrari models to come, introducing new levels of comfort and usability combined with the level of performance expected from the esteemed Prancing Horse.
This well specified 2000 Ferrari 360 Modena is finished in elegant Nero paintwork and Beige leather with optional Scuderia Ferrari fender shields, just as it appeared when rolling off the assembly line at the Ferrari factory in Maranello.
Sold new at Ferrari of Newport Beach, California, the original warranty book records Mark Grundy of Laguna Niguel, California as the car's original owner.
The accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report indicates that the Ferrari then passed to its second owner in January 2002 at approximately 2,297 miles.
Remaining in California for the next 21 years up until the present day, subsequent entries in its warranty book show a 5,000-mile service in March 2002 and a 15,000-mile service in July 2003, both conducted at Ferrari of Orange County, California, as well as numerous visits to Ferrari of Newport Beach from 2004-2016.
Most recently, the 360 returned to Ferrari of Newport Beach in July 2023 for servicing in preparation for the sale.
Acquired by the California-based consignor in 2023 from only its second caretaker, the Ferrari shows just under 28,500 miles at the time of cataloging.
Benefitting from a beautifully preserved interior and exterior - which according to recent paint meter readings retains its original Nero finish - this fine Ferrari 360 Modena presents an excellent entry point into mid-engined Ferrari ownership.
Included with the sale are its tool kit and leather case as well as its leather folio of factory manuals.
